This matches the print version, but the printed newspaper lacked ?Written? before byline, and the photo and caption, but it added a box in col. 2 referring to the Web site for the video. But not so fast, UFO geeks. There?s a logical explanation for the eerie sight, which was caught on video by a Post-Crescent reporter. If you attended Saturday?s Timber Rattlers game, you might already know the answer. The black cloud was actually a smoke ring formed from a flame projector known as Dragon?s Breath. The device was used during the fireworks show following the game. Bruce Kellerman, the operations manager for the Green Bay-based company Bartolotta Fireworks, which manages the after-show games, described the device as a steel tube with a welded bottom. It basically spits out and burns fuel for a spectacular effect lasting about seven seconds. ?There?s not too many companies that do this,? Kellerman said. ?It?s something unique.? The smoke ring the device often creates can stay up in the sky for a good length of time on windless days, he said. A ring of smoke isn?t unusual at fireworks shows. Experts from Pyrotechnics Guild International told The Post-Crescent that vortex circles can ? and often do ? form from certain fireworks bursts. So why haven?t you noticed them?
